Prologis has set a goal to upgrade old and inefficient lighting systems to LED in many logistics facilities in its European portfolio by 2019. Using LED lighting is a smart choice: It can reduce the energy consumption of lighting by between 50 and 90 percent, which means better light at a lower cost. Working closely with service provider KMLS, Prologis developed a sustainable model to reduce energy costs at a logistics park in Hamburg-Steinwerder.

Located at the heart of a region considered to be one of Europe’s economic powerhouses, Prologis Park Hamburg-Steinwerder offers logistics space measuring a total of around 40,900 square meters. This upgrade project replaced 84 round high bay fixtures that previously used 400-watt mercury vapor lamps with energy-efficient LED lights. Implementation reduced the number of fixtures to 64 due to LED light-output efficiency, and the new elongated LED high bay fixtures offer better light distribution.

The new system achieves more even lighting dispersed over a larger surface area. It also allows for more cost-effective installation and uses less energy. Because maintenance and cleaning are easier, the lighting system offers a myriad of additional potential cost savings.

We focus on long-term fixture quality and performance in fixture selections and are happy to advise our customers in regard to LEDs, both in the case of existing facilities and new developments.
