Prologis won third place in the category “Special Prize of the German Brownfield Association” at this year’s Brownfield24 Award. The winning project is a logistics facility in Bottrop that Prologis is developing for the logistics service provider Yusen Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH.

Prologis’ award-winning property was previously used by a company in the steel industry, and there was a 24,000 square meter hall and a 520 square meter office building on the site. Following the demolition of the old buildings and an extensive revitalization of the site, a sustainable logistics facility of around 57,200 square meters is now being developed.

“We are delighted about the award for our Prologis Park Bottrop,” said Christina Deuß, director, Capital Deployment Germany at Prologis. “Brownfield developments are not only an excellent opportunity to offer our customers logistics space in excellent locations, the revitalization of unused industrial sites is also environmentally friendly and sustainable, as no new land is developed. This is why the revitalization of brownfield sites is an important part of Prologis’ sustainability strategy.”

The logistics facility is being constructed as an all-electric building. In doing so, Prologis is following the standards for BEG 40, DGNB Platinum and WELL Building Gold. By using the latest and most sustainable technologies—such as an air heat pump, a 3.6-megawatt photovoltaic system and innovative building materials, like low-carbon concrete and Cradle to Cradle (C2C)-certified materials for the interior—the facility can operate in a highly sustainable manner compared to conventional logistics buildings. As a result, more than 7,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided each year.

About the Brownfield24 Award
The Brownfield24 Award is an acknowledgement of projects and initiatives in the field of brownfield development. Brownfields are unused or underused areas, often former industrial or commercial sites, that may be contaminated and need remediation before they can be put to a new use. The Brownfield24 Award recognizes outstanding achievements and innovative approaches in the revitalization of such sites.
