Following Strong Growth, the Independent Aftermarket Business Line Requires Additional Space in Groß-Rohrheim
DÜSSELDORF / FRANKFURT (18 July 2018) – Prologis, Inc., the global leader in logistics real estate, is expanding the logistics space for the independent aftermarket business line of the technology company Continental in Groß-Rohrheim in Southern Hesse, Germany, to around 34,000 square meters. This represents an increase of almost 7,000 square meters. Construction started recently and is due to finish in early 2019.
The new logistics space will be used as a picking and storage area and features very narrow aisles as well as a separate small parts storage area. The number of pallet slots will increase from 32,400 to 44,550 and the number of small parts storage slots will rise from 6,400 to over 25,000. Continental operates out of Groß-Rohrheim to provide wholesalers all over the world with car accessories. In turn, these wholesalers deliver the goods to their end customers, e.g. garages. Continental Aftermarket GmbH will use the new storage space from early 2019 onwards. Prologis will take charge of property management for the facility.
Back in 2008, Prologis developed the first logistics facility in Groß-Rohrheim for Continental Aftermarket GmbH. Since the opening of the logistics center, Continental Aftermarket GmbH has increased the volume of turnover generated there by around two thirds. “We are expanding our portfolio continuously and growing twice as quickly as the market”, said Peter Wagner, head of the independent aftermarket business line within the interior division at Continental. “As such, we are in urgent need of additional storage space. Groß-Rohrheim has the ideal conditions for future growth and our positive, trusting partnership with Prologis will enable us to rapidly adapt our logistics to this growth.” Additionally, the new logistics space will enable Continental Aftermarket GmbH to increase the flexibility of its shipments and shorten cycle times.
Second Expansion
In 2011, Prologis initially added an extra 8,400 square meters of space to the facility. “We are happy that Continental Aftermarket GmbH has again chosen Prologis for this expansion”, said Philipp Feige, vice president, market officer Germany, Prologis. “The decision was influenced by the ideal location in the densely populated areas in the Rhine-Main and Rhine-Neckar regions as well as the excellent long-standing partnership.”
The maximum floor load capacity of the facility is 140 kilonewton per square meter. Additionally, the building meets the latest sustainability standards, including LED lighting. Prologis is striving for a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
The excellent transport connections provide Continental Aftermarket GmbH with numerous logistical advantages. Frankfurt Airport is just 50 kilometers away. The location on the Rhine is in close proximity to several inland ports, with the Port of Worms just 10 kilometers away. The on-ramps to the A67 and A5 motorways are around 8 and 13 kilometers away respectively.
